Newsquest's Berrow's Worcester Journal (pictured left), which started life as the Worcester Postman in 1690 and was published regularly from 1709, is believed to be the oldest surviving English newspaper.

  The Newspaper Society is the body that represents local and regional press in the UK. Founded in 1836, it is thought to be the oldest publisher's association in the world.
